Week 3: Chapter 18 - 25
Week 4: Chapter 26 - 33
Week 5: Chapter 34 - 42
Week 6: Chapter 43 - end
I like this chapter because the family prys for food that they have on the table and danil says just because your mother doesn't want you doesn't mean you can take mine
How dare her mom be sooooo rude! Carly's mom gave her step father permishen hurt her dator, and Daniel was super MEAN by telling Carly "jest because your mother doesn't want you doesn't mean you can take mine" how rude!
Chapter 7 was sooo intense! I can't believe how Carley's mother betrayed her. It was so sad! I can see why Carley doesn't trust the Murphy's. I can't believe how mean Daniel was to Carley. I loved all the similes and metaphors though. One for the Murphy's is such a good book.
Same because the mother gave the dad per mason to hit her daughter and how can her mother be trade her own daughter and the dad is hitting the mom and Carly and the mom would not break up with the dad
Chapter 6 Is when Daniel is angry that Mrs. Murphy is nicer to Carley than him so he starts getting stubborn and saying mean things. Finally he says "Just because your mother doesn't want you doesn't mean you can take mine." That's what makes Carley runaway.
Chapter 7 is when Carley runs away and then she falls. There's a flashback in her old life with her real family. Denis her step father gets mad and starts treating to do all these bad things. Carley runs around and makes fun of him and try's to get her mother to get mad at him and leave. But her mother graps Carley's leg and says "Honey I got her!" She gave Denis permission to hurt Carley. Carley just wanted her mom to love her but it seems like her mom loves the step dad more. Maybe because she rather have Carley get hurt and yelled at she maybe wants to have Denis's good side and do what he wants. It's so sad that her mother doesn't love her.
Chapter 7 was very intense because when it flashbacked and the mother grabbed on to her leg and told the step dad " I've got her." I couldn't imagine how sad she must have benn when that happened. She must have felt betraid. In chapter 6 when Daniel said " Just because your mom doesn't love you doesn't mean you can steal mine." That made me fell very annoyed with the brother for saying that. He should not have said that he shoul have thought before he spoke. One for the Murphys.
I think that chapter 7 was very sad. When Daniel said to Carley "Just because your mother doesn't want you doesn't mean you can take mine". That probably hurt Carley a lot because she didn't think that was true at first. I couldn't believe that her mom was actually going to let Dennis hurt Carley. It is so bad that her mom wanted Dennis more then she wanted her kid.
This chapter It was so sad. I like this chapter because this chapter really got me hooked. Finally all the pieces of the puzzle got put together. I know why she feels this way. She must of felt like the world has ended in that very moment when her mom said " honey I got her by the leg". Her own mother betrayed her. And how she said "my plan feels like a suiside missoin. And Daniel saying "just because your mother didn't want u doesn't mean u can take mine". Know wonder why Carley doesn't trust the Murphy's. The books emotion gets me really interested I just can't wait to read more
In the sixth chapter, Daniel shows just how jealous and how much he wants Carley to leave when he says, "Just because your mother doesn't want you doesn't mean you can take mine." His words really hurt Carley so she runs out the door. In the seventh chapter, she then stops running and remembers the night she realizes that her mom might not love her enough to leave Dennis. I can't believe that her mom let Dennis hurt her. She even helped him!
Chapter 7 was the saddest part in chapters 6-8 because Carley runs away from her foster home while thinking about what happened to her real family. Dennis (her step father) doesn't like Carley because she kept insulting him by saying things like, your nothing but a looser! And because Dennis just got back from getting fired from his job for impersonating Elvis. This is what happened in chapter 8.
I think that it's sad because Carlys mother loves her step dad more than her.😢The mother wants the step dad to hurt her.🙀The mother don't want her.👎
I like this Chapter because... I liked learning about Carly's past. And why her step dad is in jail. And why her mom was in the hospital. And why she was token away from her mom. And why she had those bruise. And how she came up the plan. And how she got abused. And how she installed the step dad.
In chapter seven it was really sad because in the beginning she was coming back to the Murphy's after she ran away. She started running away when Daniel said " Just because your mother doesn't want you it doesn't mean you can take mine". Later in this chapter it told what her stepfather Dennis did. First she was dribbling her basketball and. Her mother lunged at her for the ball. Carley moved over and the mother fell and hurt her leg. Dennis came in and started yelling at Carley. Dennis started threatening Carley and said "What I do to you is going to be 10 times worse than what I did to her." Carley's mother grabbed her by the leg and doesn't let go.
This chapter was so intense. In this chapter I couldn't be live how her mom would betray her like that. I learned that Dennis abuses the mom and Carly.but the part that's was the most intence was when the mom teamed up with Carly's stepdad to abuse her together. I can't wait until chapter 8.
I thought it was sad that she had to have a horrible experience like Carly went through. I think it's sad that it shows in the scene where she looks in the past. And it shows her mother is on Dennis side. I feel bad for Carly because her mom is so mean to her but Mrs.Murfy is so nice to her but she doesn't except the kindness that Mrs.Murfy is giving her because she is torn apart.
These chapters remind me of the old saying that 'we choose the friends that we think we deserve'. I feel that Carley has such a poor self-image, and that she does not feel valued by her mother. Even the title 'Wake up and Smell the Apple Juice' is such a strong statement. I interpret the title to be a phrase that Carley WISHES she could scream to her mother. "Wake up and Smell the Coffee, Mom.....How could you choose him over me?" How do you interpret this phrase?
I think this chapter is intense and sad because Carley's Mom held Carley's foot so Dennis could hit Carley even though Dennis hits the mom. I think that Carley feels betrayed
This chapter was so INTENCE!!!!! I can't believe Carley's mom wanted Dennis to HIT her! It was so sad when Daniel said, "just because you don't have a mother, doesn't mean you can take mine." Carley must've felt so agrevated when he said that. Carley doesn't even want to be at the Murphy's so how can he say that?!
In chapter 6 when Daniel said "just because your mom doesn't love you doesn't mean you can take mine" it made more sence to me why when the basketball got stuck he said "mom look what Carley did" and he wanted her to get in trouble. I was very surprised when in chapter 7 when Carley was having the flashback and her mom was crying for her but she didn't want any help she was helping Dennis hit Carley which is why carley is now in foster care.i think she will start to be more open minded because she's thinking 'when mrs.murphy asks me this I fell like saying yes but I cant. I feel like should return all of the nice things that she's done for me'
Chapter 7 was very intense and sad because mikle said to Carley is even thought your mother doesn't love you doesn't mean that you can take mine!!!. So she runs away and has a little flashback about what happend and she remembers that her mother helped Denis hert Carley.
In the text when Daniel said " Just because ur mother does not want you it dose not mean you can take mine." I felt bad for Carly and felt like Daniel should think before he talks, that mad Carly mad and sad so she ran away from her foster family. She ran as far as she could and ended up in an orchard. Her foster mother found her at night and said "Let's get you back home". That's when Carly got confused she never had a "home". When they got back the foster mother offered hot coco, she wanted it but she said no.
Chapter six seven and eight were very intense. I couldn't I imagian how Carley must have felt when Daniel says, "Just because your mothers doesn't want you doesn't mean you can take mine". I think Danial should have though before he spoke. Carley already felt that she didn't belong but now this just made her think it even more! I was also SO surprised when Carley's Mother not only let Denis hurt Carley, but helped him do it! Carley must feel betraid and hurt not only on the outside but on the inside too. I can't wait to read more!
I think chapter 7 is very intense because in chapter 6 Daniel said "Just because your mother doesn't love you dosnt mean you can take mine!" And that's when Carley runs away and has a flashback of if her mother really does love Carley in chapter 7. I think the mother doesn't love Carley because the mom caught Carley by the foot and says "Honey look! I caught her by the foot!" And I think Carley feels betrayed by her mother because she let Denis hit Carley.
I think that Daniel is jealous of Carley because he said "just because your mom doesn't want you doesn't mean you can take my mom. I also wonder if Carley is ever coming back to the Murphy's house.
Chapter 7 made me think of how Carly got bettered by her own mother. It was so sad when I heard Carlie's mom grabbed her by the ankle and said "I got her, I've go her by the ankle" her own mother the one she loved bettered her. Carlie's mom let Dennis the father beat her dater she helped him beat Carly up. =.(
In chapter 6 Daniel gets so jealous and tells Carley "just because your mom doesn't love you it doesn't mean you can steal mine." Carley gets really hurt from that and starts running as fast as she can away from the Murphy household. As she was running she trip and slipped and had a horrible flash back of what happened when she wasn't an orphan yet. Carley's mom tripped because Carley accidentally moved out of the way. Dennis walked in and started chasing Carley, as Carley's mom was on the ground she says, "Carley, come here" so Carley comes but her mom grabs her leg and says " I got her" like she loves Carley but cares more about Dennis. Mrs. Murphy finds Carley and politely brings her back. Carley realizes she can't trust anybody.
Do you do things that you think you deserve that you really don't want to do? Carly can say yes to that question because when Mrs.Murphy asked her for hot chocolate Carly said no even though she really wanted it. It made me mad that when her mother called for her and she grabbed Carly's ankle and gave permission for Dennis to hurt her.
In the Orchard where Carly was lying on the ground she was thinking about her past when her stepfather was trying to get Carl to hit her and her mother was crying not to so then she went close to her mother and she stopped crying and said to her stepfather "Honey I got her!" The mother was actually giving her stepfather permission to hurt her child.
Chapter7 That is horrible that the mother grabbed her leg and said I got her! She thought the mother was on her side but she was only helping Dennis. Dennis hit the mother and hit Carley.Maybe the mother wanted to fool Dennis so that she had some money to have a better family and have a wealthier life. I feel bad for Carley because every thing is going wrong for her right now. How do you think it is going to get better
In chapter 6, I think Daniel made Carley's life harder by saying "Your mother doesn't want you." If he hadn't said that, chapter seven probably would be really different. In chapter seven, the author revealed a lot about what has happened to Carley and helped me understand some of the chapters before this one. But the most surprising thing to me was that her mother helped the stepfather hurt Carley. I knew her mom wasn't the sweetest from one of the chapters before, but I still can't believe her mother did that.
In chapter 7 I felt so sad for Carley beacuse she wanted to see what happened when her mom told her "come here come here". The when the mom said to Dennis "I got her" I was in shock. I couldn't believe what the mom did to betray her like that. So when she Carley went to foster care now I know what harm Dennis and the mother who's all the scratches and scars. I was also scared when Carley ran from the Murphy's and she just kept running and running. I thought for sure something was going to happen to her beacuse she said " every time my foot hit the ground pebbles, rocks, and sticks would go though my sock.
I think that chapter 7 is very intense because first Daniel says "Just because your mother doesn't love you doesn't mean you can take mine."Then after that Carley runs away and has a flashback about what happened that night and she remembers that her mother betraid her and wanted Dennis to hit Carley. I wonder why she betraid Carley like that?
I think in chapter 7 it is really intense why because her own mother does not love her because her mother let Dennis hit Carley and remember in the begging she was shooting a basket ball and she missed but she she got it stuck in the side of the basketball hoop or rim so that might mean that she might love her
Chapter 7 is just so sad.I feel so bad for Carley. How can the step father Dennis hit Carley and her identical mom.But most importantly why would the mom go against Carley her OWN daughter but not an abusive guy she Barely new. What a terrible mother!

I think that Carley is going through alot because she had her own mother betray her and let the stepfather hit her. Also Daniel said "even though your mother doesn't want you anymore doesn't mean you have to steal mine". To add to that she realizes that Julie at the end it say you and lie. Finally Carley doesn't know why exactly why this lady still cares if she dies or not
In chapter seven it was really sad that Carley's mom would betray Carley like that. Carley's mom garbed on to Carley's leg and let her husband hit Carley. Who would do that? I feel really bad for her. She was lying down on the ground like a caterpillar having a flash back. Who wouldn't feel bad for her?
I feel really bad for Carley. Why would the mom chose Denise instead of there own child! That's crazy :( The mom rasied Carley! Even if she had a reason for doing this it does not explain why her mother would betray her own child?! It makes no sense! Her mom grabbed Carley's ankle and Carley was like "Mom what's wrong?" The mom said back to Denise "Honey I got her" :( :( :( :( :( I don't know what I would do if my mom did that!?
Thank you for letting me read to your class yesterday. I really liked our discussion about what the author meant by "Wake up and smell the apple juice." I wonder if Carly will be able to let her step mother in- I think she wants to, but is afraid because of being hurt by someone before.

I think the book is getting very sad. I think this because Carley's mom betrayed Carley! What kind of mom would do that 😱?I'm surprised Carley still even cares for her mother👩. After what her mom did to her, I'd be happy to finally get away!
I think that chapter 7 is very intense because first Daniel says "Just because your mother doesn't love you doesn't mean you can take mine."Then after that Carley runs away and has a flashback about what happened that night and she remembers that her mother betraid her and wanted Dennis to hit Carley. I don't know what I would do if my mom did that!?
I now know why Carley doesn't trust anyone, because her own mother betrayed her.
