OMG!!! I can't believe that Michael Eric is in the hospital! I wonder if Michael Eric will live?!? I feel soooo bad for Adam, though. He is so young. Why is Daniel so rude to Carley? His brother is in the hospital and Daniel is denying that Michael Eric will be OK! I'm happy that Carkey now cares for ALL of the Murphy's now. That's practically the only GOOD thing. His will the family take it if Michael Eric dies. WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT?!?!?!?!

Sahej Singh said...

I think that Carley is scared because Micheal Eric is in the hospital. I don't know if Michael Eric is going to live the seizure. Does Michael Eric have a history of having seizures?

One For The Murpys

I think these chapters are intense because Michael Eric had a SEIZURE! because the said "It was caused by his fever" WHAT? And how responsible Carly was, even Daniel was a bit nice to Carly. Also it was so sweet when Carly went upstairs to get Mr.Longneck for Micheal Eric if/when he feels better. What do you think of these chapters.

Deegan said...

How woul you feel if someone you care about got put into the hospital?

Tony El Nemer said...

How did you feel if your little brother had seizure and you don't even know if he will survive. Well (CARLEY EXPERIENCED IT), I would feel shocked, scared even some emotions I can not explain. How would you feel?

VIDYUT said...

WOW!!! Michale Eric lives!! I think thought he would die,
But he was saved. During Daniels basketball try- outs,
I didn't expect him to be this BAD

Lily said...

I think that Daniel is starting to like Carley.

Katelynn DeLeon said...

Carley hangs a kid from a tree! He had been being mean to Michael Eric. Carley is starting to love the Murphys.

Deegan said...

I think it was funny when Carley hung the kid, that was bullying Michael Eric,by his overalls on a tree like a Christmas ornament.

Carol said...

I JUST LOVED THE part when Carley stood up for Michael Eric when he was being teased by Jimmy (the bully). My favorite line was when the author described Carley as hanging him up by 'his overalls like a Christmas ornament' dangling from a tree branch.

This was such an unexpected reaction of Carley's character revealing her nurturing and protective nature and her inherent caring character. It shows a 'big-sisterly' side of her character and it also makes me realize how she has bonded so much to the Murphy family.

Lily, I see that you posted on November 18th that you think that Daniel is starting to like Carley. What do you mean by that, specifically? Do you mean that they are growing closer as sister and brother? What events in the book made you come to that conclusion?

Vidyut, I was so shocked like you were to know that Michael Eric lived. Mrs. Lavery made me give her a spoiler alert for that part, because she was afraid to keep reading. She said to me: "Tell me if he dies, tell me if he dies......If he dies, I CANNOT READ THIS BOOK ANYMORE!!!!" This part of the book reminds me of another similar novel called Fig Pudding by Ralph Fletcher. You would lOVE it!

Tony El Nemer said...

Carley was AWESOME when she put Jimmy(the bully) hanging on the tree because Jimmy punched Michael Eric in the stomach (It was awesome how she stood up for Michael Eric) and for the first time Daniel and Carley were actually BONDING! How did you feel about Carley doing that to Jimmy?(I thought it was pretty funny)

Isha said...

Whoa, I can't believe Michael Eric and Daniel spilled the beans that Carley is a foster child to Tony! At least Tony isn't that mad anymore, since she threatened to beat up Rainer until he BLEEDS to stand up to Carley.

Another thing that is surprising is when Carley graps Jimmy by his overalls and HUNG him up on a TREE like a "Christmas ornament!" At least she was doing that to stand up for Michael Eric when Jimmy called him a baby, and not doing it for no reason.

I wonder why Tony's dad hardly answers her emails. Is it because he is just busy doing his work? Why is Tony's mom so perfect and wants Tony to be her MINI-ME?

Well, not everybody's family is perfect…

Shubham said...

In the chapters Toni found out that Carly was a foster kid and that mrs. Murphy wasn't her real mother. Toni wasn't friend with Carly anymore, but Toni still gave one more chance for lying and forgave Carly.

Also Carly stood up to Michel Eric when he was being bullied by a kid named jimmy. Carly took him by his overalls and hung him on a tree and called him a Christmas ornament.

Deegan said...

Daniel and Carley were actually bonding because she offered to help him with basketball. Also I thought telling him to lie to himself was a good idea, I do that to think I'm good at dribbling.

Sahej Singh said...

I think that Daniel is starting to like Carley because she is teaching him how to play basketball and it was bad when Carley lost her only friend, Toni/Charity Byars because she figured out that Carley was a foster kid. It was really good when she gets Toni back after Toni stands up for Carley. My favorite part was when Carley stands up for Micheal Eric by hanging the bully in a tree!

Emma said...

I can't. Elise that mrs. Murphy had a breakdown infrint of Her kids! She was throwing dishes yelling crying all taking place in front of her kids. If I was one of her kids I know I would be terrified because I never saw an adult breakdown in front of me. It's amazing that well Roney and caelwy were in a fight and Rainer was being mean to Carley in the lunchroom Toney came and sat with carley and even stuck up for her. It really wormed my heart when so one was bullying mikel-Eric and Carley grabbed him and hung him on a tree like a Christmas tree ordement. These were some of my favorite parts through out all of the chapters we read.

Another crazy thing that happened was when Mrs. Murphy completely lost her temper. I couldn't believe that she would throw dishes in the sink. Normally Mrs. Murphy is really calm and cheerful. I was also supprized when Carley stood up for Michael Eric when that kid told him he was a baby. The even crazier part was that Carley and Daniel started laughing and talking together.\uc0\u8236 }

Zachary Williams said...

It was awesome when Carly hooked the kid Jimmy who punched Michael Eric in the stomach to a tree and let him dangle there like a Christmas ornament.I thought that was really nice of her. What did you think?

I can't believe that Michael Eric spilled the beans that Carley is a foster kid. Toni didn't talk to Carly for a while. I felt bad for Carly. What did you think?

All the events in these chapters made me want to keep reading and find out more. What did you think of these chapters? What were your feelings?

Madeline said...

In these past chapters my favorite part was when Tony sticks up for Carley in the cafeteria. Even though Carley lied to Tony about her mother, and even though Tony was ferouse and disappointed in Carley, Tony didn't let anyone hurt her. I think that this was such an unexpected twist in the story because you wouldn't think that after Tony had been so upset with Carley she would all of the sudden stop ignoring her and forgive her. In my opinion I think that when Tony made Rainer stop throughing carrots at Carley that this was her was of telling Carley "it's okay I fogive you". This is why I think that chapters 15-20 were some of the most interesting and engaging chapters in the story.

Jordan said...

I can't belive that when Michael Eric was being teased Carly dragged him up a tree and left him there dangling by a branch. Also I was surprised that Toni found out that she was a foster care kid. Finally she forgave her and Toni stuck up for Carly while Rainer was chucking carrots at her.

Now Daniel us starting to like Carly and not avoiding her or being rude

Zach said...

In The chapters it was funny how the bully Jimmy was hang to a tree branch by Carley and she then said "if you do that again I'll hang you from the gutters!" I also liked how Daniel and Carley started to bond together. It was sad how Carley revealed herself to Toni by Michael Eric asking if Carley's mom was coming because Mrs. MacAvoy was there when Toni came to Carley's house and how Toni's friendship was destroyed by Carley not telling the truth but in the later chapters Toni stuck up for Carley by telling Rainer to back off and soon Carley was friends with Toni again. In one of the chapters Mrs. Murphey broke down because the family was going crazy and she went down stairs with Mr. Murphey and Carley over heard what they were saying which was that they couldn't keep Carley and that's when Carley called Mrs. MacAvoy saying "I need to get out of here!". Those chapters were so entertaining!

Antonio said...

I think that Daniel and Michael Eric and Adam are kind of liking Carley because she gives them a good laugh and some times Carley plays with super heroes with the boys also she might just ack like a real sister

Katelyn said...

In the chapters that we read, there was many things revealed. Like when Toni called Carley her best friend , when she said " And are you thinking I'm going to give my best friend some of that money?" In her conversation with Carley about her future acting job. I thought that Carley and Toni were going to be enemies still. Also, I thought the part when Mr. And Mrs. Murphy fight about how Mrs. Murphy gives Carley too much attention and the boys not enough. After that Mrs. Murphy goes into the kitchen and smashes a mug to the sink! I kind of thought though, in the earlier chapters, that Mrs. Murphy can't always be perfect. But I really thought that the part where Carley hung up the boy that was bullying Michael Eric was really sister like and I think that Michael Eric is going to look up to Carley even more because of that. And lastly, I really liked how when Rainer was throwing carrots at Carley, Toni went ahead and stuck up for Carley and then became friends again. If I was in Carley's shoes then I would feel so relieved to have my friend back and to have someone stop throwing carrots at my face.

Arya said...

One for the Murphys

These chapters were intense and good they were intense because Carly called the adoption center or whatever it's called and then someone came to maybe pick Carly up WOW. It's was also intense cause Mrs.Murphy smashed a cup in the sink. Now for the good parts first Daniel is bonding with Carly and Toni and Carly made up. What do you think of the chapters?

Tony El Nemer said...

Arya, in the chapters when Michael Eric got a seizure I felt sad and happy. I felt sad because MICHAEL ERIC GOT A SEIZURE. Come on if you little brother got a seizure wouldent you be sad!? Most people will get sad. I was happy because he came home!(alive) Michael Eric is the most sweetest character in the story! You would not even be a tad happy that he survived? If he did not it would change the whole entire story!!!!!

Dennis McNamara said...

In the preaveous chapters of one for the murfys carly started to become good friends with her old enemy tony. At the Enormous house of Tony's carly finds out many things about Tony and her life In comparison to others when tony shares about how her dad is never there for her and always out on a buissness trip.tony also reveals that she thinks of carly as her best friend!!

I thought it was so nice of carly to stand up for Michel Eric when he was getting bullied by that mean third grader. It was also realy funny when Carly paid back that rude kid by hanging him on that tree by his overall like he was a Christmas tree ordament .

The relation ship between Carly and tony is broken when Micel Eric Blabes to Tony that she is a foster kid. After storming out of the murfys house Carly finally makes up with Tony and swears to never lie to her again.

Megan said...

Wow that's pretty much all that I could say after i read these chapters. The part that I found realy funny was when Michael Eric was getting bullied by the neighbor jimmy and Carley came over and hung him buy the straps of his overall off a tree like and ornament!

The part that I found equally funny was when Toni and mr.murphy were arguing about the Red Sox and the Yankees. I believe Toni said that if you were a Red Sox fan then you were a loser.

I thought it was very nice of Toni to stand up Carley at the luch table. She threatened Rainer and sat with Carley too.

I personally loved theses chapters and found them very entertaining.

Lauren said...

In the chapters we read I could not believe Michel Eric spilled the beans to Toni that Carley was in foster care with ms.murphy,as her foster mother. Another thing I could not believe Carley did was hang the bullie jimmy up in the tree in his overalls. Carley did that to protect Michel Eric. I. Old not imagine Toni sticking up for Carley in the lunch room. In. The lunchroom Rainer started tossing carrots at Carley and then Toni stuck up for her. I was in shock that that Toni said to Carley "I'm your best friend" if you were trying to impress your best friend I would think you wouldn't have to go through that much trouble to be there friend.

Isaac said...

Virtut I am suprised he lived to. I thought this was going to be a story when one of the charector dies and the main character would feel like they need to do it more than before.

Mrs.virzi, thank you for asking me to write specificly. In my opinion I think that when Carley started to play basketball and teaching him to be tough, and good at it. Daniel started realizing that she is not that mean to him. Carley was just trying to help him and Daniel was the one being mean.

VIDYUT said...

I could not beilieve it too Lauren. I think that it was really funny that carley hung that Jimmy kid on a tree branch. Personally, I would suggest that Carley should give him a wedgie. That would have made the book more interesting.

When Toni found out that Carley was a foster kid, I bet she totally got stung because she told Carley everything about herself. She Evan told her that her real name was CHARITY!!!! I really think that charity is kind of an awkward name.

Carol said...

Megan, I forgot about the part about Toni arguing with Mr. Murphy about the Red Sox! I'm so glad that you remembered those scenes. Why do you think that the author spent so much time on those interactions? Toni is a secondary character, as is Mr. Murphy.....A reader might think to themselves: "Oh, I can just skip this part. It is not important to me because I care mostly about Carley....."

I feel that the relationship between the father and his 'daughter' is being developed in these chapters. I would describe Mr. Murphy's personality as a little bit gruff on the outside, but tender on the inside. It's almost like Carley has arrived to the family to soften her father's parenting style. I also love the father's use of humor and sarcasm. It reminds me of many Irish families in or around Boston, MA.

Isha, I loved your question about Toni's mom and how she wants her daughter to be a 'mini-me'. Have you heard that expression before? I have heard of moms who want their children to be just like themselves, rather than appreciating them for who they truly are in their own unique and unrepeatable way.

This is such a struggle of modern-day parenting. How do we love our children for who they are on the inside, yet, guide them in line with our values and morality as a family and as a community?

Such a tricky balancing act.

THIS CHAPTER IS AWSOME beacuse of the fact that danule told toni that carly was a foster kid. Because of what he did carly lost her only friend.

MIKEY MCGINLEY said...

I agree with Antonio because Carly is being very very nice to Michael Eric ,Daniel and Adam. And I think Michael Eric and Adam already liked Carly. I also think Carly is feeling like this is her real family.

Shravya Anisetti said...

I was so shocked that Micheal Eric could have died! That was scary. I think Toni likes Carley even when Micheal Eric told Toni that she was a foster kid. I think if she didn't really like Carley she would have told other people that she was a foster knowing that it would make her miserable, but she didn't because she liked her.

Lauren i agree I was also shocked that Toni stuck up for Carley! It was surprising that she would do something like that even though Carley lied to her. That means they really are best friends!

I think Mrs.Murphy likes Carley, she even told her that she deserves more than what she had. Even though Carley wanted to leave because they were "too nice." The Murphy's are NOT perfect either just like her own family.

Isha I am so eager to find out what's going to happens next and I love the bond between Carley and Micheal Eric. Especially when she hung him by his overalls on the tree just like a Christmas Ornament! Carley really cares about Micheal Eric!

Ann said...

I thought that it was soooo funny when Carley hung Jimmy( the bully) on the branch of a tree. I also thought it was really depressing when Carley went to the library and got the Ariel cd to listen to the song Kiss the Girl to remember her mom.

Once when I was sad my mom used to cheer me up by using some comforting words. I thought that it was really weird that Toni's actual name was Charity Byars. Don't you think it was a little mean for Toni's dad not to respond to most of her emails to him?

Harry Luz said...

I agree with madeline because I thought that Toni's and Carley's friendship was going to last for a long time but by the looks of it it only lasted about two weeks. Even though Toni was disappointed at Carley that she lied to her she still stood up for her when Rainer was throwing carrots at Carley. That was the time that I realized that Toni will forgive her and they will become friends for a even longer than last time and probably they will grow up together. EVEN WHEN ADULTS⁉️

Isaac said...

I wasn't here when you read it but judging on what people said I am guessing that things are finally going Carly's way.

Dominic Dacey said...

I LOVED the part when Carly stood up for Michel Erick when jimmy (the bully) came over and Carly hang him on a tree branch by his overalls

The author used supsific details when Carly was hanging jimmy on the tree by his overalls and Carly said if you mess with him again I'll give you a nulke sandwich something like that

One for the murphys is a little bit like Ida b

I agree with you mrs VIRZI

Bella said...

I LOOOOOVE when Carly Stod up for little Michael Erik it reminds me of when my big brother stuck up for me when I was little. And to know some one loves you that much means the world to you that someone is crazy enough to hang someone by there overalls from a tree like a ornament because they love you think how Carly feels when Michael Erick says you're hero she thought she could be nobody's hero I wonder if she still believes that being hero is never in her favor.

Amaya said...

I think that when Toni/charity stood up for Carly was a deffent twist! One other twist of the story is when Carly picked up the boy bullyiny Mickel Eric and hung him on a tree after calling him the naberhood farmer! I can relate to Carly and Toni this story with another one that I'm reading wich is called "The School Of Good And Evil"! I'm glad that Michel Eric survived the siezre!
( thanks to the coments theas people Carol Virzi, Megan, Tony, Katelyn, and Denis)

Charlie said...

I could not stop thinking about Carly hanging a kid to a tree by his overalls. Not about how funny it was (I have to say it was funny) but how Carly stood up for Michael Eric. I would do the same thing ( if I had a brother) ,but I wouldn't hang the kid by his overalls. It reminds me of when a friend of mine got pushed to the ground and I stood up and told the kid to back off from my friend. Also I have to agree with Lilly on how Daniel is starting to be nice to Carly. After Carly stood up for Michael Eric Daniel was laughing, but in a good way as in he was happy.

Shravya Anisetti said...

Ann I agree I feel a little bad for Toni maybe her parents don't notice her. I feel bad for Carley also because her mom loved her husband more than her. Toni REALLY likes Carley because when Carley told her more about her real family and when she gets to the part about Dennis Toni stood up for her and said that she would fight back just for Carley that shows that there REAL friends.

Anonymous said...

I agree with deegan because he said how would you feel if a family member went to the hospatal . I would feel all emosanal and sad inside . Why would Toni be mad at Carly I know she lied and but still I wouldent be mad .

Kate said...

I agree with Emma. I LOVE the part how Carley stood up for Michael Eric to the bully jimmy and how she hanged him by his overalls in the tree! Haha. In the book it says "he looked like a Christmas ordiment".

But can you believe that Michael Eric almost died from the seasur. I was almost crying when that happened. I could tell how the boys and Carley felt because I had that happen to my brother once and it was the scariest moment of my life! But I could tell that Carley started to take responsibility of the two boys by tucking them into bed, feeding them dinner, organizing there Easter baskets. Isn't that so sweet of her? I think carley is started to love all three of the boys. Including Daniel!

I also agree with madeline because she also stated how she loved the part about Tony and Carley and how Tony stood up for Carley in the cafeteria. Carley is actually having the experience of having a best friend! I seriously thought that the first time they met they would be like forever eminies!!

Don't you agree that Carley has a great family that cares for her and loves her. I think she's is actually starting to show her big sister side. She is making a big mistake of thinking of leaving the Murphy's!

Aishwarya Narayanan said...

I can't believe Carley hung jimmy onto a tree by his overalls left hanging him from a tree like an ornament.I would have thought she would feel bad and scared that if Mrs.Murphy found out that she wouldn't like Carley anymore and now that her mother is recovering I thought Mrs.Murphy would get annoyed that Carley keeps causing drama and keeps having mood swings and send her to her mother. I wonder why Mrs.Murphy wants to protect Carley so much. In previous chapters it said her friend was in foster care but was the friend actually herself because whatever Carley does that isn't exactly the best thing to do she ignores it and finds it as a joke. Also sometimes when people say their friend did. Something it usually is them but they don't want to admit it. I thought it was nice of Toni to stand up for Carley about Rainer. Even after Carley lied to Toni about being a foster kid.

Megan

I was thinking that Mr.Murphy would hate Toni for saying that and want her out of the house like he doesn't really want Carley in his house but he won't argue or yell at them because he knows Carley would tell Mrs.Murphy. But I also found that part about the Red Sox and Yankees funny.

Lily said...

Antonio, I disagree with you because on page 48 it says "I can be the bad guy. I lean over and look in to Michael Eric's shimmering eyes. And you can try to catch me." I think that Michael Eric and Adam liked Carley from the beginning but they never really expressed their feelings.

Anonymous said...

Also to add on to my post but I agree with ms virsy because of how she made a connection with the book fig pudding. And i have also had famly in the hospital before.

Dominic dacey said...

in Ida b ida b does not have her mom because has cancer and in one for the murphys Carly does not have her mom ether because her mom was abusing her and letting the step dad hit her and I would think that Carly's mom would not let anyone hit her daughter but NO ! Her mom wanted to hit Carly to so that's why it is like Ida b

Dylan Lemay said...

I thought these chapters were really good expecally when Carly hung Jimmy the bully like a Christmus Oriment on the tree in the front yard OF HIS OWN HOUSE!!

Zach I agree I was really sad when Toni found out that she was a foster kid and I don't blame Toni for getting really mad when she had kept a secret from her so called " Best Friend " even they hated each other just about two weeks later. I never thought they would be friends ever again.

I think it is really cool how the setting is really close to we live. I also like how they like all the sports teams we like. The dad in the story should let Daniel do what sports he thinks he is good at and likes. I wonder if the dad will try and get Michael Eric and Adam to play baseball. I really think Toni and her mom have NOTHING but the Broadway plays and the mom thinks that she is a "mini-me" even though they aren't. I thought it was crazy for Carly to call Mrs. MacAvoy and and just calling to say Hi ( so she said ) even though at the time she really wanted to go and was sick of the Murphys and though she was messing the whole family up even though she really isn't. I don't blame Toni for not being called Charity. The Saddest part of the book was when Michael Eric had a seizure and that could hand really messed up the family. I like how Carly kept her cool when Michael Eric told about the foster kid and didn't try and kill him because that is her only friend that isn't miles and miles away. Do you think if Carly had a choice would she pick the Murphys or her real mom after what she did to her?

MIKEY MCGINLEY said...

I agree with Sahel. I think Daniel does like Carly know because Carly once took care of Daniel and Adam when Michael Eric was in the hospital.

Suheera Haq said...

I thought it was very scary when Michael Eric had to go to the hospital because he had a seizure. I remember when my little brother had to go to the hospital because he had an allergic reaction. It was scary and sad because both of them were very young. I also thought it was very sweet when Carley got Mr. Longneck for Michael Eric before he went to the hospital. I thought it was very responsible of Carley to care for the boys while Mrs. Murfy was in the hospital.

I thought it was great when Carley hung Jimmy (the bully) on a on a tree 'by his overalls like a Christmas oranament' just for Michael Eric. It shows that carley would do anything for Michael Eric even is there are cocequences. It also helped Carley bond with Daniel.

I think Daniel did not like Carley at all because Daniel told Toni that Carley was a foster kid. I think Carley is starting to bond with the whole family. And I think she is starting to feel like she is a normal person with friends and a family. Not a person from a foster care.

I think it is great that Carley has a new friend(Toni). I thought it was nice when Toni told Carley all of her secrets like how her name was actually Charity. I'm still confused about one thing. What does 'simp' mean?
I don't agree with you Lauren because I think Daneil spilled the beans beacause they covered up what Micheal Eric said but then Daniel said that she was a foster kid.

Gabby Bianchi said...

One for the murphys

My favorite part in this chapter is when Carly sticks up for her little "brother". She hangs jimmy up by his overall straps and then Daniel thinks it is cool what she did to stick up for his brother I think this is one step closer for them to be more of a brother and sisterly bond.

I also LOVE how Toni calls Carly her best friend for this is what Toni said "then split it with my best friend" this was soooooo heart warming. But then they got in a fight and they didn't talk for a while so Carly appoligized and they worked through it and they are still best friends.

Ann YES I agree I mean who would do that to their own daughter and not even try to respond to I i were the dad of Toni I would try my hardest to contact my child maybe the dad of Toni doesn't like her. But why?

Ann said...

I agree with Dominic because in Ida B, Ida B has to go to school and she doesn't like it at first but eventually she gets used to it. And in Ida B, Ida B's mother is sick too.

I thought it was really nice when Daniel and Carley bonded with each other. They finally weren't mean to each other. Mrs. Murphy was very kind when she tried to cheer Carley up after Daniel told Toni that Carley was a foster child. I can't beleive that Carley blew Mrs. Murphy off when she was trying to help Carley!!!

Lily said...

Ethan, I don't really get what you are saying. I wouldn't describe these chapters as awesom although they are they are more of meaningful. What are some othe ways that you describe this book as "awesome".

Shravya Anisetti said...

Kauan why would you not be mad at Carley? Is there a reason? I would be mad at first but then I would let it go because I would want to know why she lied in the first place. I think Toni has a reason to be mad but I think she should still give Carley a chance.

Charlie said...

Ethan, why do you think Carly lost her only friend? Would you think it would awesome if you lost your only friend. It was a very sad chapter. It would be sad if even she had 100,000,000 friends and lost one who was close to her.

Harry Luz said...

What I mean EVEN WHEN ADULTS even if they don't talk to each other they will talk to each other sometime because their friendship Can never be broken because toni told Carley everything even her real name Charity p. But now it's Carley's turn to tell " Charity " everything

James Vassell said...

I agree with Madeline because it took a lot out of tony to stick up for Carly. It took a lot out of tony because she told Carly everything.
Carly was scared to tell tony that she was a foster kid.
